Today’s ArtyParti was recorded a month ago, at the Vane Gallery in Gateshead. The exhibition; Death Magic - by mixed media artist Sofia Barton.
Reading from Vane’s website; “Death Magic, part of Gem Arts’ Masala Festival, offers a poignant journey through the intersection of neurodivergent experience, and the rich tapestry of Punjabi perspectives on death, ancestry, and the enduring power of memory."
It was, in my own opinion, a beautiful and vibrant exhibition considering the subject, and it was moving to hear about the strong relationship Sofia had with their father which inspired elements of the series.
But Sofia can guide you through their exhibition better than I can, so I’ll hand the microphone over to Sofia, as we explore Death Magic and meet some of the attendees.
